One thing my grandmother told me that I will not forget is that I should not fear aging. Although it might be scary to think about the future and the stigmas that come with growing older, there is much overlooked beauty that comes with the process. Throughout our lives, there are constant stressors that impact us on a daily basis. Yet, as you get older, the things you used to worry about no longer have as much of an effect on you. There is no point in sweating the small stuff that you won’t even remember later. No matter how bad situations may be, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Just as my grandma says, “the sun will always come out.” By making the most out of any situation, it provides the possibility to see life as more than a job, income, or success.
Aging allows us to gain experiences and view life through different lenses. As we get older, our viewpoints and outlooks on life change depending on our life stage. To enjoy the process, you must be able to find the positives in life. At the end of the day, we should aim to have no regrets. Every day it is important to wake up doing something you love. Always attempt to reach your goals no matter the distance because you don’t want to become disappointed for not taking a chance. Although we may want to reach our goals quickly, always take your time. There is no need to rush; each day provides a new lesson and experience to help self-growth.
Lastly, my grandma always taught me that I should always have fun and be able to let loose. Although I should work hard and dream big, that does not mean I can’t enjoy all I have accomplished. As you make life happier, you will be much more satisfied in the long term.
I hope this serves as a reminder to not take life so seriously by worrying about the future and instead enjoy every moment in the present!
