Loneliness is experienced by many seniors around the world, and due to the pandemic, this problem was only amplified. Meeting seniors in person can be difficult and contacting them through technology has its challenges as well. There is a learning curve when it comes to technology and some seniors do not have the privilege of being taught the intricacies of technology and social media. Finding an alternative form of communication for seniors around the world who have problems with technology is an important issue that needs to be addressed.
The organization Love for Our Elders is an organization that sends thousands of letters to seniors across the world. Their goal is to fight social isolation and loneliness across the globe by mailing hundreds of thousands of handwritten letters to senior communities to spread love and joy to these seniors. During COVID-19, they organized video calls and ran educational awareness programs for millions of people to fight against the loneliness that seniors feel. Seniors are nominated and their mailing addresses are given; the diversity of seniors ranges from cancer survivors to older immigrants who face isolation or experience loneliness.
To help this organization, you can read about the different seniors who want to receive letters and send handwritten letters to whichever senior you connect with the most. This organization supplies visual and written guidelines to supply an idea of what types of letters are acceptable and the topics that should be addressed and avoided. They also supply a choice to nominate an elder in case there is a senior you know of that could receive help from their services. You can put a smile on a senior’s face by visiting their website:
