Aging is a phenomenon that everyone will experience, and this process will be unique to every single individual. However, with aging, there are misconceptions and false stereotypes that can develop with this process and thus form ageist opinions. It is important to become informed about the misconceptions associated with age and focus on the actual issues that seniors have regarding their quality of life.
An organization such as the Alberta Council of Aging aims to educate individuals about ageism and help maintain a high quality of life for seniors. This organization provides a Senior Friendly program that can aid the elderly with recognizing fraudulent activities, planning for retirement, recognizing abuse, and many other essential services for seniors in Alberta. The Alberta Council of Aging also advises the government on issues and concerns of seniors to increase their quality of life. They also do a great job at collecting input from seniors in communities about the concerns they have and communicating these concerns to the government of Alberta.
If anyone would like to aid this association in reaching their goals, then they can volunteer on their website and work with this organization to improve the quality of life for seniors across Alberta. Everyone can also donate to this association as they are a provincial nonprofitable, charitable, nongovernmental organization. Donations allow them to maintain their advocacy as they are a non-profit, however, they also do have a membership program where you can pay an annual fee and receive benefits while also participating in their general meetings.
